Pray forthe Church
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. – Ephesians 6:18
Praying together as a church and for the church is not only a mark of unity, but also a cultivator of unity. More than fellow church members, we are also partners in Christ and co-labourers in the Great Commission.
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. – Ephesians 4:16
In praying for the church, we build one another up as each part does its work. When Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed earnestly to God for him (Acts 12:5) and Paul asked often for the church to join him in his struggle by praying for him (Romans 15:30).
Prayer is one of the most powerful ways we can support one another in our ministries and ways we live out our shared mission to bring God’s light into the darkness.
Praying for the church body reminds us that we are neither alone nor self-sufficient.
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. – 1 Corinthians 12:12
