Best Life Yet

BEST LIFE YET
Luke 5:1-11

How does the best life look like to you? Is it filled with worldly achievements, a checked off bucket list, or being surrounded by friends and fans? Explore a different definition of a life well lived and find out how you can take the next step to find it.

Discussion Guide

1) See what Jesus Does (v1-3)

Although Peter did not make any catch the night before, he put aside his disappointment and responded to Jesus' invitation to participate in His ministry. Many times when we experience disappointments, we may become so fixated on the situation that we miss out on God's work in our hearts. How can we be more aware of God’s presence in our frustrations? Why is it important that we know God is with us? If you're going through a difficult time now, what do you think God is trying to say or do in your heart?

2) Trust what Jesus Says (v4-7)

In Peter's experience, it was more effective to fish at night than in the day. Yet when Jesus asked him to cast his nets, Peter obeyed. Sometimes, what God tells us to do may not seem logical but the best way forward is to trust Him. What does trusting God look like to you? Why is trust essential in our relationship with God? Why is God trustworthy? What are some situations we are currently going through that we need to trust more in God?

3) Follow where Jesus Goes (v8-11)

When Jesus challenged Peter to follow Him to fish for men, Peter immediately left everything behind and followed Jesus. What does following Jesus mean to you? Are you willing to make such a radical commitment today, and why? What are some things that are stopping you from fully pursuing the things of God? How can you follow God today? How can we as a Life Group encourage one another to follow God?

Jesus gave Peter a miraculous catch so that Peter would want to know Him more. Signs and wonders are meant to point us to God. The value of miracles is not in how spectacular they are, but how they draw us to know and love Jesus more. Have you experienced a miracle in your life? What does it tell you about who Jesus is? How has your life changed since then?
