Not One Way But Every Way

EMPOWERED: NOT ONE WAY BUT EVERY WAY

Phi 2:12-13; Acts 16:6-15

With the Holy Spirit in us, we have access to great power. And this power is not only available for one or two aspects of our lives, but for every facet of our Christian walk.

Discussion Guide

1) Living Transformed Lives (Phi 2:12-13)

A common saying goes, "A leopard never changes its spots." It means that it is impossible for anyone to change his/her character. Do you agree? Why? Does this saying apply to Christians? Why do you think so?

Life transformation is a partnership between the Spirit and the believer. As we strive to live a life worthy of the Gospel, the Holy Spirit empowers us with the strength and wisdom to do so. Reflect on how the Holy Spirit has transformed your life. Share your transformation story with your Life Group. Give details on how you were previously, how the Holy Spirit empowered you to change, and how you are now. Record your story in your smartphone or notebook, so that you can share it to encourage others in the future.

In Philippians 2:1-5, Paul urged the believers in Philippi to set aside their egos and follow Jesus' example of humility and obedience. Are you experiencing conflicts with fellow Christians? What are a few things you will change in order to manage the conflicts with “the same mindset as Christ Jesus”? How can you rely on the Holy Spirit more in your relationships with others?

2) Breaking New Ground (Acts 16:6-10)

The Holy Spirit can empower us to break new ground by steering us away from our original plans. Does this mean that we don't need to plan? Why do you say so? Think about a previous experience when you changed your plan in obedience to the Spirit's leading. What was the result? How has your faith grown? What did you learn from that experience about the Holy Spirit?

Sometimes the Holy Spirit shows us a different way that is unexpected. Do you think you can confidently follow His leading then? Why? How can you tell whether you're hearing from the Spirit or not? One way is to know that the Holy Spirit does not speak in a vacuum - He speaks in accordance to what Jesus teaches. Therefore, we need to be familiar with the Bible. How can you grow in your understanding of the Bible? How can we support everyone in the LG to not just know the Word, but obey it as well?

3) Winning The Lost (Acts 16:11-15)

Without God, we can't. Without us, God won't. To experience the Holy Spirit's empowerment, we need to step out!

As we plan for Go LG, how can we look to the Spirit for empowerment to win the lost? Is there someone in your family, workplace or neighbourhood whom you can share to about God's love? How does it feel, knowing that the Spirit is with you and actively working in the hearts of your hearers? How does that change the way you outreach?

From Series: "Empowered"

Power is often seen as an ability or tool that we can own or control. It comes in the form of things like weapons, money, titles, connection, and knowledge. With this mindset, it’s easy to believe that the more of these things we obtain, the more power we have. When it comes to godly living and life transformation in our communities, though, God’s intention for power is radically different. Join us for this 3-part series where we’ll learn what God’s power is about and how we can be empowered every time, in every way.
