Empowered For Godly Living

EMPOWERED FOR GODLY LIVING

Eph 3:16-19

We are empowered to live a life devoted to God. Yet sometimes, we find ourselves simply going through the motions of life. Or we may be trying to overcome our sins but to little avail. Find out how the Holy Spirit can revive our love for God and empower us to live wholeheartedly for Him.

Discussion Guide

1) The Spirit works in our inner man (v16-17a)

The 'inner man' refers to our hearts and spirits, the parts of us that are invisible but essential in determining whether we live for God or not. Why do you think the Holy Spirit needs to work in our inner man in order to transform our outer actions? From Ephesians 3:16-17a, what does God's "glorious riches" tell you about the kind of power He has given us through His Spirit? How would this encourage those of us who are struggling with sin? Why is it important that we have Christ in our hearts? What would this look like in our decisions and behaviour? Share with your Life Group one area in your life where you want to tap the power of the Spirit to change.

2) The Spirit reveals Christ’s love (v17b-19a)

How long have you known God? How many times have you heard about the love of Christ? Now, read Ephesians 3:17b-19a. How does it describe Christ’s love? Why do you think Christ's love is beyond our understanding? What does this say about Christ's greatness and our limitations? Since knowing Christ’s love is a never-ending process, how can we press on in the faith though we may feel stagnant in our relationship with God at times? Let’s pray that the Holy Spirit may enable us to experience the supernatural revelation of Christ’s love.

3) The Spirit fuels our godly living (v19b)

In your own words, define 'godly living'. Why is it important for Christians to be godly? Godliness is not just doing the right things. It is doing the right things out of our faith in Christ who loves us. How does knowing Christ's love motivate us to do the right things? Let’s imagine for a while and share how it would look like when the church reflects the fullness of God in its daily living. Besides prayer, how can the Life Group encourage one another to rely on the Spirit for godly living?
