Parenting

Children are a gift from God.

As parents, we are to be good stewards of this gift that God has given to us by teaching and training them in the Word of God, so that the spiritual legacy can be pass on to the future generations.

Parents are the primary spiritual care-giver of our children. We work in partnership with the HopeKids teachers to lay a strong spiritual foundation in our children.

Child Dedication

The word “dedicate” means to set aside or commit to a sacred purpose. “Child Dedication” means committing a child to God and God’s purposes. Parents cannot actually make this decision on behalf of their children – as much as they would wish to! Each child will one day have to make his or her own personal decision about whether or not to commit himself or herself to God.

In our church, child dedication is really a matter of parents dedicating and committing themselves to the Lord – that they would do their best to bring up their child for the glory of God. Therefore child dedication is different from child blessing ceremony whereby we pray and bless the child. While we would still pray and bless the child in child dedication, more importantly, the focus would be on the parents and the commitment that they would be making.

The primary purposes for child dedication are:
· For parents, joined by their church community, to celebrate the birth or adoption of a child, joyfully thanking God for this new addition to the family and to the church community.
· For parents to commit themselves publicly to raise their child in the nurture and love of the Lord, and for the church to pray for them in their awesome responsibility as parents.

Criteria for participation:
· Child is 9 years old and below.
· Both parents are believers in Christ and at least one parent is a Hope Church Singapore member.

Dates for Child Dedication in 2018 will be announced at a later time.

Parenting Guidance Workshop

What are your attitudes towards talking about sexuality with your children?

“The school and teachers will talk to them about it.” “Kids are internet savvy. They’ll find out in their own ways.” “It’s not that important. My own parents didn’t talk to me about this.” Talking about sexuality can make even the most confident parent “fight” or take “flight.” But studies have shown that parental involvement has a tremendous impact on your child’s decisions regarding relationships and sex. If your child doesn’t hear about it from you, he will hear it from someone else who may not have his best interests at heart. Sexuality education is more than just talking about sex. It’s about helping your children become confident about themselves, learn how to make good decisions, and develop healthy relationships. Be equipped with the facts and skills to help your children grow to become healthy and responsible adults.

YOU are the critical element to your child’s sexuality education.

Through this talk, parents will:

  • Gain an understanding of the issues youth face in today’s media-hyped world
  • Understand and be challenged on why you need to be first in to talk to your child about sexuality
  • Learn about what you need to talk to your child about in sexuality education–health, relationships, character
  • Learn practical tips on how to start talking to your child about sex and relationships.

Date: 28 April 2018 (Saturday)

Venue: Textile Centre, Level 8, Connect 802

Time: 10.30am – 12.30am

Fee: $15/pax
        $30/Couple
